Fat Quarterly - Issue 9 All about Kids and Teenagers
Issue 9 of Fat Quarterly e-zine is about to hit the e-shelves and this issue is dedicated to kids and teens. I was privileged to be invited to make a quilt for the Linus Project , an organisation that distributes quilts to children in need to bring them love, sense of security, warmth and comfort.
Here is a sneak peek of the teenagers quilt.
Fat Quarterly subscribers will be receiving their copies of Issue 9 soon and single issue release later this week.

The Desperate Housewife's Quilt - Week 43 Three Leaves
Welcome to week 43 of the 'The Desperate Housewife's Quilt'. Todays block is about Applique. Remember, this is not a quilt-a-long. Just follow the blog every week and pick and choose which blocks you would like to make. I will be injecting some uniqueness into traditional blocks, applique, three dimensional, crazy and thread-art blocks. If you make a block please post it on the Flickr group for everyone to enjoy. Also, I have this nifty button under each post that allows you to save the post as a PDF.

Be sure to visit this week's Guest Blogger and their wonderful block.
(N.B Due to the differences in time and date zones, the guest blogger's block may not appear at the time of the initial posting)
This week I have the very creative and talented designer - Toni Alexander from The Red Boot Quilt Company. A fellow Aussie and local, Toni is presenting her Recycled Denim Daisy block.

Three Leaves
The wind lifts the leaves from the Gum Trees and tossing them around the yard, resting in gutters, paths and pools.
Materials
- 1 - 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" background square
- Favourite Fusible web or Freezer Paper ( Use something that is soft or can be washed out. Needle turn would be the preferred method if making a whole quilt ).
- Scraps for leaves
Assembly
- Print out the Applique Templates here
- Trace onto dull side of fusible web ( without 1/4" seam allowance )
- Cut out leaving 1/8" around shape
- Iron onto back of fabric.
- Cut on traced line
- Using a cooler iron, press onto background square using the diagram below as a reference to placement of the leaves. Remember to place the edge of the leaves 1/4" inside the block.
Hint: If making multiple blocks, create a template that you can lay over the 8 1/2" block to position the appliqué pieces. Alternatively cut a paper square 8 1/2" x 8 1/2", draw the leaves and use this as a template with quilters carbon paper to mark each block.
- Applique leaves to background fabric using your favourite stitch
Hint: If you are using needle turn appliqué remember to add 1/4" seam allowance when cutting the leaf shape.

FMQAL at Quokka Quilts
Laura from Quokka Quilts invited me to design 2 Free Motion Quilting designs for the Quilt a Long. Row 6 of the project was 'Choose your own Adventure' theme. My first block was sharks surfing waves. I have a great respect for sharks and waves, growing up in Cronulla. This is an easy filler pattern for a beginner.
My second block was Flowers and Echoes. A little more involved but still a fun pattern to play with.
Pop over to Quokka Quilts and have a look around at what's been happening in the quilt-a-long.

Phylls Quilt
Remember the collaborative efforts of Anne, Glennis and I to make this quilt in a day?
We recently had the opportunity to photograph Phyll with her quilt. Phyll has the most beautiful, gentle soul and she was overcome with happiness when she received the quilt. Mission accomplished. May this quilt always bring you happiness and wrap you in love forever. Love you Phyll x

Tiles
We often miss the patterns in the tiles as we scrub away. Our bathrooms could be our next quilt pattern.

Ipad Slip in 30 mins
Packing for the airport the other day, I realised that I did not have a protective covering for my iPad ( or a padded one that involved pretty fabrics ). So, with 30 mins to spare, I used Sisboom fabrics and Aurifil threads and made this little slip on cover.
No pattern. Just made it up as I went along.

The Swoon Quilt has found its home
Remember the Mega Swoon? It has now found a loving home with my niece in Sydney. Ashlin loved it and couldn't wait to place it on her bed.
